Pope Benedict XVI rejected the use of condoms to prevent the spread of AIDS last year (Here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4081276.stm)).

Now, Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini has said that condoms can be used between married couples where one partner has AIDS to prevent passing it to the other. However, "The Vatican says condoms should never be used, even to stop Aids spreading from one married partner to another."

We seem to have a Cardinal with a modicum of rationality here, but this means going against official Vatican policy. ???

Imagine how many lives could be saved if the Pope declared that the use of condoms is the best way to prevent the spread of AIDS and encouraged their use in Africa.

But no. Contraception is a sin; an evil so great that it's better to infect your partner with HIV than to use it.

Unbelieveable. :-\

Yes john it is unbelieveable.
What always amazes me though is how the roman catholic faith remains so strong in a continent with numerous different tribes and beliefs.
