    Strangely unreassuring advertising

Spotted a piece of advertising in the local M&S today:

" Know how? Our food experts have over a thousand years of experience between them."

    ???

The style as we like is the humdrum.

So are they very old or are there lots of them?

    Quite. :)

If this is the most reassuring statistic they can offer, one has to wonder about the rest. Or perhaps they thought that any gurgling inanity would do as a slogan.

More likely there's 10 35 year olds and one 652 year old in the kitchen.

They're also falling for the fallacy that experience means diddly squat without context.

You can have 25 years experience as a food expert in your local chip shop, that's not going to say much for your ability to spot a quality artichoke.

I saw a great one yesterday on a packet of KP salted peanuts.

They are high in protein, salt, and very high in fat (49% :o)

On the front of the packet: Naturally low in carbohydrate

    :D

Yes I see where you are coming from, but for someone on a low carb diet, 25g of peanuts makes a reasonable snack with less than 4g of carbs.

I have used a low carb diet as a way of losing weight and it works for me. Only do it for 6 to 8 weeks though as after this I get an urge for bread or fruit and nut
