    Answer Zaira's Questions

Why doesn’t my word prog accept Skeptics? It changes it to Sceptics. Which is correct?

    Re: Answer Zaira's Questions

Sceptics is the British spelling, skeptics is the American spelling. However, the American spelling has come to be commonly used when refering to the practice of skepticism and skeptical organisations, while the British spelling is generally used as a description. ie. "The skeptic was sceptical of psychics." Many people just use them interchanagebly or only ever use one of them.
    Better sorry than safe.

The UK spelling is from the Latin Scepticus, whereas the US spelling is from the Greek Skeptikos.

    Either is acceptable.

Quick answer here: Skeptic or Sceptic?

Every other organisation in the world uses Skeptic, and the "K" is just a little closer to the original Greek.

Thank you. Skeptic looks more correct than Sceptic. Think I'll do an 'add word' then I won't get that red line when I spell-check. lol

    Okay, my next question is…………

Have any of you ever had a dream that came true?

Yes, in a general sense. So what?

    Re: Answer Zaira's Questions

I doubt anybody has had a dream "come true" in the literal sense -- i.e. every single event, sight and conversation experienced in the dream was replicated verbatim in real life.

What they generally mean is that the dream seemed to have some subjective correlation with events that happened sometime later, which is vague and totally meaningless.

Yes, this is exactly what I meant by "in a general sense" - an apparent correlation between the general thrust of what happened in a dream and what subsequently occured in reality.

"Yes, in a general sense. So what?"

I was just wondering. I have had dreams come true....... What I mean is I dreamed of something happening and it did. I guess I was just curious as to how common it is. And what the forums views were.

It depends very much on the nature of the dream and how similar the real event was to the dreamed events.

If you dream of six specific lottery numbers, play those numbers and win the lottery, then yes, that is pretty amazing.

On the other hand, if you dream that you will pass a red car on the drive to work, and you do -- big deal.

    Re: Answer Zaira's Questions

Dreams are based on memory and memory reflects life experience. Life experience is generic for the most part and so there is repetition and redundancy. So dreams are just common memories that are likely to be repeated....
