Well fokes I am going to shock you all but first I am also going to agree with you all entirely and I am going to ask you all two questions 1)what is the difference between a true medium and there is difference and those that claim to be one and obtain payment. 2)What is the difference between a true psychic and those claiming to be psychic and obtaining payment. Having grown up in the mystery world of psychics and mediums I can tell you now fame and fortune is not part of there world. I am also sick and tired of those self obsessed greedy individuals whom claim to be what they are not praying on the vulnerable they know nothing of the real secret world of mediums and psychics and it is secret world for many reasons and some of the reasons are you must be of strong mind and another reason is you can only be born to it you don't just wake up one morning and say ok! I am medium to day it doesn't work that way and has for the program most haunted what you have there is a classic example that is nothing better than a fair ground amusement for self gain and making good viewing figures for the TV company's and I guess by now you have all probably clicked that I am a true medium I don't take any form of payment at all and I don't like being in the lime light however today I felt the need put the record straight and speak out for those that are by design gifted and prefer to be known to those that need our help for closure with regard to there loved ones And I don't go looking for ghosts or spirits if they need to communicate they come to me and this can happen at any time, and at any place other than that I live a normal life.

If you're asking what the difference between a true and a fake medium is then it's impossible to tell.
Mediumistic ability has never been shown to be real so all we're left with is people who believe they are mediums and those who are fake.
As this ability is not real, there's no test that can be done to distinguish between the two.
Whether a person charges money for giving readings is an irrelevance. Charging money (or not) has no effect on the claimant's ability (or lack of).

However, I had a inkling that you might make such a claim.
If true mediums existed then they would be distinguishable from the fakes and the self-deluded.

Calling yourself "open mind" whilst not entertaining the possibility that you may be mistaken about the source of these apparent messages you receive: that puts your grasp a skepticism at about medium too.

Welcome! I am interested in what you have to say, as I'm sure others on here are too. But may I suggest that you post more clearly. I'm no expert in punctuation but I try.
I would also like to ask you to stick around and tell us more about what brought you to believe or know that you were a medium, how long have you been one, and do you have proof that your mediumship works?
Some questions may be rather pointed but I'm asking you to be patient and tell us a little more about yourself and your beliefs and how you came by them. Also it would help if you are open to the views of other members so as not to have this turn into a bickering contest. Reading the boards guidelines might help also.
I'm not a skeptic or a believer, I'm just very curious. I'm on a personal and spiritual journey of my own and would be very interested in hearing more about you and what you believe.

In my opinion, the question is loaded and flawed as it assumes something to be true (true mediumship / psychic ability) which has never been shown to be true. So the comparison is a non-starter as half of the comparison is unlikely to exist.
It is always best not to answer loaded questions.

I reiterate chillzero's commentOpen mind, stating yourself as a true medium or psychic is largely irrelevant given the scant evidence proving these abilities to exist.how does your claimed ability manifest itself?
If you have something a little more concrete to go on we would be pleased to explore further.

I don't know what the hell is in there, but it's weird and pissed off whatever it is.
Good evening to you all. This will be my first post on this forum, apart from a brief "hello" to you all upon my joining a few weeks back on the Introduction thread.
I do not wish to attach any labels either to myself (i.e. medium/psychic etc) or to the situation I am about to relate; I would simply like to give an account of what I believe to be "evidence" of an afterlife that I received personally and subsequently a separate incident (one of many) where I have passed on "evidence" to another (a total stranger to me):
I am fast approaching my 53rd year; have led an extremely eventful life, respectably educated, well travelled, and possess what I consider to be a fairly open mind.
Just over a year ago I found myself intensely taking stock of my life so far and asking myself the age-old questions "What's it all about?" "What is the meaning of life?" "Why am I/we here?" That night I woke up to find my mother's face right in front of mine, smiling at me (my mother died 20 years ago, as did my father). Initially pretty shaken up, I closed my eyes and opened them again to find her still there but standing beside the bed where I could now see her full form. I will quickly add here it was NOT a dream, & I made all the necessary confirmations, checked out the room, the clock, even physically pinching myself. Still there.
3 days later I found myself attending a medium for a reading, with the sole secret purpose of having them confirm this incident. I had absolutely no intention of giving anything away about myself or what had happened. He knew absolutely nothing about me and was a complete stranger to me. This medium first explained that he was clairaudient, i.e. he hears spirit but does not see. Straight into the session (wow!!) describing my mother (in her words) to an absolute 'T' - not only confirming that I had recently seen her, but SO very much more, apparently not coming up for air, so many minute and accurate details were given to me through this guy. My father also came through in this session and (trying to be brief as poss here) the main gist of it all was to let me know that mediumistic skills run in the family way back on my mother's side and that now was the time for me to begin to develop and use this ability and that I would be helped and guided by both mother and father in every way. That years ago was not the right time; I had to go through and deal with many experiences in my life first before I being ready and able to do this work, and now I was ready.
Since having joined a development circle, I subsequently attended a one-day Workshop for developing mediums where one of the "exercises" was to pair up with another attendee (total strangers) to see if and what we could "get" for that person. Not expecting anything, I immediately saw (much to my surprise) on a sort of screen by this person, a lady who I described to her in detail with the name Mary printed above her head. I simply related to this person as I went along just what I was seeing. Also saw the month of May. Then a pile of books. I saw this person handing one book to someone else. Then I described in detail a young boy of about 12 or 13 who (I don't know how I knew, but just knew was still living). I could see he had large brown eyes and black sticky-up hair. He also had a brown face - and don't know why but I didn't mention that fact, although was very clear to me. Anyway, that was it, I didn't feel there was any message in it, but just told her what I had seen.
The person afterwards confirmed to me that her friend Mary had passed over (died) one month previous. The person who had died was a few days off her 90th birthday (in May). She had actually been a medium. Before she died had left this lady her large collection of books asking her to give them to charity, which she had done but before doing so she had given one of the books (on mediumship) to another friend of hers.
The boy had been the lady's next-door-neighbour, a 12-year old Indian lad who had looked after her by getting shopping for her, making sure her gate was closed, etc, and this young boy had been very much affected by her passing, and had not stopped crying since she died.
Sorry this is so long-winded, did try to condense. I hope you've not fallen asleep mid way - but may I please leave this with you? I would be interested to hear people's thoughts on this personal double revelation. Anecdotal it may be but surely thought invoking ....?

You know that story would be far more "amazing" if you could provide a transcript from the medium you visited. I simply cannot except anecdotal evidence, because people who visit mediums never seem to remember all that they got wrong. The are also quite good at applying generalisations to fit their own experience, so you will usually find with a transcript that nothing revealing was mentioned, or if it was it can apply to a large percentage of the population (which is how they work). I cannot comment on your reading, because I have no idea if its true. I cannot simply assume it is true, because I rely on proof to forumlate an opinion.

I can indeed provide not only a transcript of that Reading, but also the cassette tape on which the session was recorded, together with those of subseqent Readings from various other mediums visited after that occurrence.
