    Moon Magic

I'm so looking forward to the New Year. More from "that" booklet.....

    "February 18th. Moon Magic.
A mystical evening with Deardra, a High Priestess from a working coven, will teach you how to work with the moon each month to change negative situations into positive ones and the moon and her different phases to empower your life and make things happen.

Deardra will show you how to work with spells for different situations to create a positive outcome. This night the moon phase will be waxing therefore the night will concentrate on positive outcomes to any situations, with the help of candle magic and cauldron magic the night will be full of spellcraft in a fun and positive way. Three spells will be formulated on the night, these are a love spell, a wealth spell, and a healing spell but advice on any subject will be answered."

It is all very "positive", is it not?

So, is Tony Blair a witch? The moon certainly worked for him.

    Positively nauseating!

A working coven as opposed to a lolling about coven?

That reminds me of a neighbour who told me to hang out my washing when there was a full moon, as the moonlight cleans and purifies the clothes.

I can just see the advert:

"New Total Dross washing powder, with added moonbeams for that whiter, cleaner look."

I can't wait for the next instalment from bindeweede's booklet

When the moon isn't waxing, do they have a workshop focusing on negative situations?
Mousse from a bowl is very nice, but to put it on a person is demented!

    Re: Moon Magic

Is anybody here an authority on the effects of the moon on life on earth? I thought there was some hard scientific evidence that the moon can effect things like mussels, but reading things like this on the internet makes me wonder if it is not complete garbage. This linked article claims that the water temperature at the north and south poles varies by 0.55 centigrade degrees between new and full moon, but I can't see how such energy changes are possible.

The moon causes tides which definitely DO have important effects on the Earth.

Well, yes, but there are specific and far more subtle effects (allegedly). I was wondering whether these have been documented systematically and scientifically.

    Good link.

Reminds me of a documentary narrated by David Attenborough about the effect of the moon on animal behavior.
Can't remember what it was called though.

Probability says you were going to get a good link eventually

We discussed this elsewhere, to do with why we always wake up at the same time. It is currently thought that retinal ganglian cells, present in the human eye, that detect blue light are used to regulate circadian rhyths (through melatonin). Cryptochromes, Flavoprotein ultraviolet-A receptors, are not thought to be as important in this regard in humans as in other animals or plants.

So maybe the moon can help set circadian rhythms in humans though, given that we are mostly asleep when the moon is the main source of light and it is much fainter than the sun, I would imagine the sun is much more important in this respect.
