    So long as it's religious

School rules count for nothing, so long as it's for a religious reason.

They never allowed me to wear my symbolic religious garments when I was at school!
As a devout atheist, I was entitled, nay OBLIGED to wear the full Oderus Urungus outfit every third day, with the 2-foot long "Cuttlefish" attachment and everything!

    I was diskwiminated against! :cries:

So the parents have allowed this girl to be out of school since last November to fight for the right to wear a religious symbol?

I'd have thought her education would have been more important.

All these cases ever achieve, in my opinion, is to highlight just how stupid religion and religious belief actually is.

Do we know who was supporting the court case? There is usually a religious organisation behind this type of action as opposed to just the parents.
Mousse from a bowl is very nice, but to put it on a person is demented!

I don't know about religous groups, but it seems to have been supported by Liberty:

I'm in two minds about this.

The school is within their rights to ban whatever they want.

She has a right to wear her religious article.

However, the Sikh religion requires Sikhs to be free of vanity so pierced ears are frowned upon. If her faith is so important, why does she have large earrings?
