    Hello and welcome :)

    Thanks for the welcome

Think of me more of a woman with cats - I do also have a dog, but DogWoman doesn't quite have the same ring to it

In that sense of Catwoman, I am Catman! That has a bit of a ring to it too ...

I have not read that book but I can imagine the sorts of things it covers. I would recommend "Why people believe weird things" by Shermer and "Flim Flam" by Randi for other good reference examples of these texts
Well, I recently finished reading "Why people believe...", and it was an impressive read, especially for my non-scientifically trained, and definitely non-brilliant mind. I did find myself skipping the odd paragraph when the author went in to the details of the American legal system in relation to the teaching of Creationism, and the section "Dr Tipler Meets Dr Pangloss" was a bit above my head!
The section which probably had most efect on me was "Twenty-five Fallacies That Lead Us to Believe Weird Things" - a list of common errors in logical thinking. But I would recommend the book to anyone who has not already read it.

I might move on to something by Randi, only having read a few articles I downloaded from his site. "FlimFlam" is quite an old publication now, I think, although I don't suppose some of the tricks he might describe will have changed much. But we now have the glories of Psychic TV and the internet , of course.

I wonder if anyone else can recommend a book they were impressed by - in relation to threads in the forum.

What about a "Recommended Reads" thread? (I hope I'm not suggesting something that already exists.)

We're one step ahead with this. We'll soon have our own on-line skeptics' book store with books reviewed by fellow skeptics.

It should be a great resource once it builds up.

Hi everyone, just found this forum through the James Randi foundation boards and thought I'd sign up. Looking forward to some good discourse.
