Greetings All! My first post, and I'm still finding my way around here. I recognize a few names. Ooooh, I just saw all these tags...I'll have to see what they do.

And hello there, Raphael.
Hi Guys,
better introduce myself. I'm a former molecular biologist (I jacked in my PhD to go and work in the film industry) now pretending to be a computer scientist at the university in Cardiff. At my previous place of work I was always the guy who would reply to the dear-all email warning about glutamate (or whatever the scare of the week was) with the relevant link snopes.com . After four years of that I wasn't the only one who would shoot down things like that so I must have had a little bit of an effect.
Anyway it's really nice to have a skeptical hang-out in the UK. It'll give me another excuse not to do any work.
Cheers,
Huw

Welcome! There's a skeptic's day out in Birmingham on 17th June if you can make it, it's a little nearer Cardiff than the usual London events.Originally Posted by huw-l

And I worked at the University of Cardiff for a short while in the mid-1970's. We had to schedule a 4 Mbyte exchangeable disk drive to be mounted for an hour at a time. Those were the days - ICL System 4's running Multijob (which we termed Multiflop). Ask around if anyone still remembers them. Later replace by Multics (woohooo!!!)

Fortunately the computer systems have moved on somewhat since the 1970s :)
Welcome to our hangout, Huw!
