Mulder,
Your argument is based on the false assumption that the series was funny to start with![]()
Perhaps it gets funnier as an episode progresses? If I watch more than 5 minutes of woo at a time I tend to feel nauseous.
It used to be entertaining but now it is just a desperate attempt to boost ratings.![]()
I stopped watching when Derek Acorah left. Boy that guy was funny.
In the beginning they saw themselves as serious investigators; then Derek was exposed as a crook and a charleton then the show was for 'entertainment purposes only'. Problem is its no-longer entertaining.
The really sad thing about this incident is that this show which served to stigmatise people with mental illnesses (for the purposes of cheap thrills) was co-presented by Ciaran O'keefe- a psychologist who really ought to have known better. However, this is the sort of thing that happens when you sell your soul to the dark Gods of Light entertainment. The past decade of overly-marketed 'ghost-hunting' that's been a feature of UK popular culture has done academic parapsychology no favours at all with regard to its standing as a field of study- or indeed the careers of its exponents...

"Expect the Inquisition..."
Most people are believe the show is complete lies, I was in a fortunate position to KNOW that its complete lies. I used to work for one of the locations they went to (Claimed to be their "scariest" ever, Edinburgh Vaults with their "nemesis" the Circle of Stones) and can say for a fact that they made it up. They were coming out with all sorts of nonesense about the rooms being used as prisons and people being tortured there adn them dating back to the 14th century. total rot. The "Haunted Vaults" are nothing more than old Storerooms built in 1788 and vacated by the merchants in 1795 because of damp. ooooh, scary!
