Ah yes, that well known Roman/Turkish/Palestinian who never came anywhere close to Britain, and whose flag was pinched from the city of Genoa about 900 years after his death!

    Happy birthday to Bill Shakespeare
    At least he lived here.
Be skeptical of the things you believe are false, but be very skeptical of the things you believe are true.

Short answer: nobody knows exactly, maybe from the myth of Perseus and Andromeda. Long answer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_G...and_the_Dragon

Good question, but possibly not the best forum to ask it on? At least one fundy nutter (http://garvanellison.blogspot.com/) has claimed that dragons and dinos are the same thing; but I'd guess that most self-identifying christians don't believe in dragons.

I thought 23 April 1616 was the anniversary of Shakespeare's death, the same date that Cervantes died ...

    That's right.

He was baptised on 26 April 1564, so if you go on some tours, they will say he was born and died on the same day (using the same historical accuracy as he did in his historical plays)

Most of what we think we know about Shakespeare / William Shakespeare is pretty dodgy with little or no evidence to back it up. For instance no portrait was painted, or description of his appearance written, during his lifetime, yet there is an image of him that we are familiar with. The best reason to go with the orthodox story that Bill Shakspere was Shake-speare is that the 60+ other people who have been suggested as the authors of his plays have even less evidence to connect them.
