    Skepticism? No. Scepticism.

Skepticism is an americanised spelling. It's Sceptic. There is no such thing as an English Skeptic! Fools!

I suppose they did that to make it possible for Americans too, to understand what this forum was made for.

    Re: Skepticism? No. Scepticism.

We have had this debate before but I can't be bothered right now to track down the original thread. The original Greek derivation was with a "K" and then it was changed to a "C" from the Latin and French but in that process it seems to have subtlety morphed it's meaning.

And by the way, should that not be "Americanized" ?

    Re: Skepticism? No. Scepticism.

The traditional "skeptic" spelling was adopted to distinguish it from the popular UK English meaning of "sceptic" as someone who irrationally doubts everything, rather than the original meaning of someone who requires evidence.

Personally I would prefer a name which did not carry any of the popular "doubt everything" baggage in its meaning - it gets abused in phrases like "climate change sceptic" (why not also "heliocentricity sceptic" or "round Earth sceptic") - but I think we're stuck with it now.

(PS. Calling the members of a forum fools in a first post is a novel way to make friends.)
Be skeptical of the things you believe are false, but be very skeptical of the things you believe are true.

We use the "k" because we Kan.

Perhaps you could do a search before you ask and look less of a fool ...

    Skeptic or Sceptic?

    Why "Skepticism"?

Shouldn't that have had a "Bwah ha ha!" on the end?

Welcome to the forums ... nice opening approach you have there.

Any particular reason you have excluded the rest of the UK from your little rant?

Personally, I prefer skeptic because it doesn't look so much like septic.

That's too dogmatic. There are too many rules and instructions. Unfortunately.
