Kevin Pietersen has spoken about the true extent of his achilles injury and has admitted it is affecting his performances in the Ashes Tests.

"To be honest it plays on my mind all day and every day. People who have had injuries know that it definitely does affect the way they play," Pietersen wrote in his column for the News of the World. "This is the first injury I have had and mentally they really get to you. I've had two injections in my back and I have had a cortisone and a homeopathic injection in my achilles.

Pietersen has already had a homeopathic injection and a cortisone injection in the tendon. The next one will be a saline solution with a small percentage of cortisone, which is intended to cushion the movement of the tendon within its sheath.
