    Where do I begin

    Skeptics are beautiful.

I was an Atheist before I converted to Islam.

    But I admire you guys.

You are far better in thinking than Atheists.

I have so much to share with you wonderful people.

I dont know where to being.

Maybe cos it is such a gentle, caring religion?

What I can't get my head around, is that you will have difficulty finding a regular poster here who is not an atheist. Atheists like all people come in different forms, seems like your previous experiences have been somewhat disencouraging - care to elaborate?

Oh will be VERY interesting, I'm an atheist who "deconverted" from Islam. Why don't you start off by describing yourself before you started thinking about Islam.

    Re: Where do I begin

I met someone along similar lines at a Humanist meeting. I asked why Islam and the reply was that "it seemed the right religion for me". This seems odd as I thought religion was a calling from God, not the other way round. so I ask the question of rayback - why Islam? Why not Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, or come to that, Rah, or Wotan? What makes Islam right and all the others wrong, remembering that followers of all the other religions will have exactly the same views about theirs.

I read somewhere that the more strict religions attract people because they are often more vocal than other religions.

Also I think someone on this forum said that some people see the Catholic Church and Islam as a sort of antidote to our modern 'liberal' ways.

Some people don't like having personal responsibility for their bit of the world, so they choose a religion where everything can be ascribed to a deity and all they have to do is follow strict rules -- no room for personal choices which might turn out to be wrong -- making everything in the real world Somebody Else's ProblemTM.

It is also, of course, particularly useful to be a Christian fundamentalist in the USA as you can then ignore all of these "experts" warning about environmental disaster and carry on driving your SUV, since you and the other chosen ones will soon be transported to heaven in the "Rapture".

Begin at the very beginning. It's a very good place to start.

You've obviously never been to a Skeptics in the Pub meeting!

    Re: Where do I begin

It is indeed true that post-modern liberal ideas can be quite confusing.

Morality and spirituality are mostly out of the window.

    Anything goes.

multiple sex partners are the norm. Gays are also in.

Maybe the sheep are next? Why not?

Strict religions seem to provide a stable ideology.

    For me Islam made sense.

All the pieces fell into place. It clicked.

Islam was the obvious the right choice once I looked at it without preconceptions.

After I paused for a few days modern influences upon me, I found that Islamis laws were clear, easy and logical .

Basically, Islam was the most natural way I came across.

    Hope that answers your question.
