Thread: Can psychics be good for your health?

Can psychics be good for your health?

A report in today's Daily Telegraph seems to claim so. Linky.

It might be helpful if some of you could comment on the article.

Re: Can psychics be good for your health?

Andrew Usher, dean of the British Institute of Homeopathy, and a (non-clinical) partner in an NHS practice in Scotland, is working with a GP to determine if RV can save lives. Usher's Med RV project uses a team of remote viewers around the world who try to detect illnesses that have been missed by conventional scientific and medical procedures.
Is someone as obviously deluded as a homeopath the best person to be conducting this kind of research? Although I suppose it follows that one discipline with no plausible mechanism should be investigating another.

That's the most credulous and sloppy piece of reporting I've seen in a good while.

It would struggle to get in most women's magazines so how it managed to get published in The Telegraph is probably as big a mystery as why people believe in homeopathy and remote viewing!

Even the remote-viewing homeopath himself complained at the article's inaccuracy.

And the Wiseman "research" cited in that dozey piece also gets the kind of kicking from Guy Lyon Playfair at the Seekrit Sheldrake Skeptical Investigations website that we'd expect Skeptics to give Sheldrake for equivalent sloppiness.

I'm not clear of the difference between Remote Viewing and Clairwhateverance . Or telepathy. Or nonsense.

Thought so too, most of the alleged phenomena might just as easily have been reported as "mediumship".

Also a bit disturbing too that the Right-of-Centre Telegraph was at such pains to say the research was "NHS-funded" when the interviewee was (according to the comments section) apparently stated at some length that it absolutely wasn't...

    Terrible reporting of terrible "research"

It's hard to imagine a worse way to demonstrate RV. It would rely on knowing what is the percentage of people with undignosed illnesses!

Any more comments at the Telegraph site would be more than welcome. The remote viewer is beginning to squirm.

There is just too much lunacy on there for me to get invovled

The telegraph would appear to have web site commenters that are actually intellectually below those on the Daily Mail.
Mousse from a bowl is very nice, but to put it on a person is demented!

Depends how you cook them. Personally I like mine with some fava beans and a nice bottle of chianti...
