England face USA, Algeria & Slovenia in 2010 World Cup

England have been drawn to face the United States, Algeria and Slovenia in the group stage of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Fabio Capello's men will play the United States in Rustenburg on 12 June, Algeria in Cape Town on 18 June and Slovenia in Port Elizabeth on 23 June.

    What do we reckon then?

    Any football fans on here?

That's not a bad draw and it should see us through to the knock-out phase. Although sometimes it can be easier to slip up when you expect an easy ride.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this. I love the world cup. Well, there's usually a lot of good games to begin with and it gets more boring towards the end. That might be something to do with the fact there are fewer games and England are usually out by then.

Toughest match there is USA who are ranked 14 according to FIFA. You guys should make it through to the final 16 no worries. But if you lose to the US .

Look at Australia's group. We have to play 6th ranked Germany. Might be our first game too I think.

Here is the group draw for anyone interested.

Ball's the wrong shape for me. I expect I'll get a bit more enthusiastic as it gets nearer - sort of get caught up in the hype.

I did raise a smile on R5 live when they followed a bit on the Iraq war yesterday by asking whether England would end up in a group of death. Puts it in perspective.

Being half Welsh and half Irish, and unable to contemplate becoming an Algeria supporter, I guess I'll be supporting adopted country Spain ... who've won 40 out of their last 44 matches ...

Looking forward to it too. I'm not a football fan, but there's something about the World Cup that is so colourful and cheerful.

I have to admit that it's the only time we ever watch football. There is something compelling about such a massive international contest with so much emotion involved, regardless of the sport.

Sitting out here in the USA, I assume you are talking about soccer - right?

I'm a lacrosse man but, as that's never televised and Ladbroke's are offering odds of 6:1 for an England victory in the tournament, I shall invest £20 and watch every match avidly. Do not try this with the England lacrosse team.

Lots of people are saying it's an easy group. But they said that about Liverpool in the Champions League! The USA looked excellent in the Confederations Cup and could easily cause an upset. My guess is that England will be group winners but not find it anything like as easy as some supporters think.
