Thread: Do you order from Amazon?

    Do you order from Amazon?

If you order from Amazon then please consider ordering via our new Amazon bookstore: http://www.ukskeptics.com/bookstore.php

It is an affiliate programme which means that UK-Skeptics make a small commission from sales (typically around 4%).

The prices are exactly the same as you'd pay on Amazon so there's no financial penalty to the customer.

For those who don't know, UK-Skeptics is a registered not-for-profit organisation and the money made can only be used for UKS aims. i.e. no-one, including me, is personally profiting out of this.

So if you'd like to help us out, even if you don't order very often, please bookmark the bookstore and use it order from Amazon.

To borrow a slogan: every little helps.

I order from Amazon quite a lot and will happily run it through the store.

Next thing to do is to remember to do it, I'm an "Ooooohhhh <click>" buyer :p

Does this work fo the marketplace or only the real bit of Amazon?
    Better sorry than safe.

I think it works as normal.

Anyway, all you need to do is click the "powered by Amazon" logo at the bottom and it will take you to Amazon and the affiliate link still remains.

Re: Do you order from Amazon?

An observation and a recommendation after I tried the service..

Recommendation - Use the "Powered by Amazon link"

    Why?

First off the search from the Amazon site is a lot easier, covers more and tells you exactly what you're getting. Secondly, searching through the Amazon site will give you the offers and the other bumph that I find useful such as the "People who brought this also brought......".

Example - I was pre-ordering the new Pratchett book Wintersmith. Ordering from the UK Skeptics section did nothing to differentiate between the Hardback and the Audio CD. When I went to the Amazon site (through the link, don't worry John ) and pulled up the books details it also offered a rather cool (IMO - your experiences may vary) "The Unseen University cut out book" which I didn't know was coming out an so may not have brought.

To be clear the blame rests with Amazon, no blame on John. I just thought people would appreciate knowing the differences.

Going through the Amazon site will give you maximum options of course.

All I would like is for people to use the link via the bookstore so we can make some money with no financial penalty to the user.

Simply using the UKS bookstore as a stepping stone to Amazon will help us.

I went to order Carl Sagan's 'Pale Blue Dot' only to find: 'This item is not available for purchase from this store'.

    This situation must be remedied.

I think that's because it's only available thought 'Amazon Marketplace'. Just use the Powered by Amazon link and search from the main site or use the ISBN (0679764860).

I've just checked and they had 5, in varying conditions, starting at £9. The hardback version had 14 starting from a tenner :)

Re: Do you order from Amazon?

I wanted more of Sagan and Randi's books in there but they're no longer on sale in the UK. >:(

I might put a direct link above the store so that people can link directly to Amazon. Even linking directly to Amazon still gives us 4% on sales.

Re: Do you order from Amazon?

Any title currently in print ought in principle to be available through amazon.co.uk, unfortunately the publishers/distributors sometimes have trouble getting the right info into the right places. Pale Blue Dot is in fact still in print so there's no reason why it shouldn't be available through amazon.

I have found that locating books on amazon is easiest if you enter the isbn rather than the title. Amazon is not as easy to manipulate as it likes to pretend.

As I work in publishing and have access to BookData (the UK's main biblographic database) feel free to contact me with any queries about titles and isbn's and I'll be happy to help.

The only two titles by Randi currently in print in the UK are

    0879753692 THE FAITH HEALERS

    0879758309 THE MASK OF NOSTRADAMUS

I already support a couple of other sites in this way. If you don't mind getting commission on one third of my orders then I'm happy to add this link to my list. That's when I'm not being selfish and ordering through Nectar to get the Nectar points.

I need a book urgently (to take as a gift to someone) - called "Antipodes of the Mind". Amazon have it - how could I order it through UK SKEPS - or do you just have "selected" books?

I think this book is VERY expensive - £25!!!! Crickey! But if I have to buy it at that price - I'd rather you got something out of it!
