My point is, we're dealing with something unknown so how do we know it obeys the 'usual rules' at all? Some people even claim it is 'beyond science'. So you'd need some sort of evidence one way or the other to form any kind of testable hypothesis. And where does that evidence come from?

My point is, the kind of tests parapsychologists do don't obviously relate to any normal human activity, except gambling perhaps. So how would you recognise someone who had good psi abilities - lucky at gambling maybe?
    I like your thinking here.

When testing an hypothesis, you're also testing the opposite, so when doing a correlation test between fatigue and PSI, you could also potentially notice a trend opposite of the initial hypothesis if there's one. It would then give justification to another more complete experiment.

I agree that we don't have substantial facts to rely on, which is why more variables need to be correlated to see if there is a trend.

Assuming PSI exists, in most test cases it would be nearly impossible to distinguish between predicting and affecting the result, even with specific directives.

I definately don't plan to reinvent the wheel, but considering the controversy touching all previous experiments, I think the protocol needs to be rock solid before doing anything.

    Reread my first message.

It doesn't mention any experiment or state any fact other than the fact that there may exist things beyond current scientic knowledge. That in itself is a proven fact since there are new discoveries every day.

    There are undiscovered things.

    Therefore PSI could be real.

    Not good logic is it?

It's the Argument to Ignorance fallacy actually.

Well, I'm brilliant and all I've noticed is that you don't appear to be very smart and most of what you say doesn't make much sense. The second sentence above being a typical example of your gobbledegook.

I've already said that you are trolling. I'll correct that: you are trying to troll but aren't smart enough.

You seem to be forgetting the 'attitude' you came in here with.

If you come in here insulting people yourself, don't expect politeness in return.

I had a look at that site and a lot of members are young Americans. I'm not familiar with the terms 'Psions' and 'Psionics'. Are these new terms for psychics and psychic abilities?

I consulted the great and all knowing/often wrong Wiki oracle and it had this to say regarding Psionics

John W. Campbell proposed the term "psionics", from psi (psyche) + electronics (machine), which implied that the paranormal powers of the mind could be made to work reliably.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psionics

The long and the short is that it's a term popularised Fiction...which is quite apt.

Well, if a science-fiction writer can invent an entire new belief system (Scientology) based on a false "science" which failed the test even Hubbard invented (Dianetics), yet is today rich and powerful with many adherents...why not?

    Re: tkforums.com - a real psi forum?

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons had rules for psionics (1980ish). Some people seem to have copied their idea of how it "works" from a fantasy role-playing game.

SF writers have come up with good ideas besides the daft ones. Arthur C Clark and communication satellites for instance.

A lot of sci-fi writers have been scientists/engineers first.

Asimov, Clark, Pournelle, Heinlein etc etc
